TED, which stands for Technology, Education, Design, is an informative show that is centred on a passionate belief in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. The show offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.
TED is a small non-profit organisation devoted to ideas worth spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences -- the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TED Global conference in Oxford UK each summer -- TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TEDx program and the annual TED Prize.
CTV downloads the TED programmes from the Internet and broadcasts them - a great example of how CTV is bridging the digital divide and bringing Internet content to people who cannot afford broadband connections and so would not otherwise be able to view such enlightening content.
